Deu Brink wins NZ IDTA Scholarship Award

Deu

Deu has been selected by International Dance Teachers’ Association visiting examiner, Miss Vanessa Hooper as a winner of a prestigious IDTA NZ Scholarship.   A visiting UK examiner selects just one winner and it may be awarded to a dancer in any of the core subjects (Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap and Theatrecraft) at Performers’ level i.e. Intermediate, Advanced One or Advanced Two.   The Scholarship recognises not only technical excellence but importantly, the potential to pursue a professional career in dance.

In the U.K., examiners’ select nominees to participate in Miss Dance of Great Britain, Dance Master of Great Britain or the International Ballet Championships, all of which competitions are sponsored by the International Dance Teachers’ Association.   Miss Dance (founded in 1974) was the original idea of John Dilworth who was then General Secretary of the I.D.T.A..   His motive was to give opportunity to performers who were on the threshold of the profession, in the hope that their appearance would impress choreographers and agents and so further their careers.

If Deu were able to travel to the U.K. she would be eligible to compete in the Miss Dance of Great Britain 2014.
